How do we teach Civics?
After the disrespect shown to the President last night, what example are we showing our children? I do understand that we are to value our opinion and teach them to do likewise, but teaching them when and how would be what's needed here. Just recently we were telling our daughter that it's ok that we don't agree on a decision she has made (She's 23). It is important to respect each other in the process of understanding each others side. What example did we learn last night? It is up to you as parents to teach with conviction and temper with silence. Show them better ways to express themselves without diminishing the other persons view. To offset the public display, we need to be an example at home. Do you want your kids yelling at you and calling you a liar?

Manners- Make that a summer goal
Being that families spend more time together during the summer time, you and your spouse can make this a great time to work on manners with your kids. I hear so many adults say that this is one thing that is going by the wayside. Good manners can be such a great asset when all grown up and looking for that great job. You can start early by modeling with your toddlers please and thank-you. Here are two books that I really like, that can get you started in the right direction.

King of Pop
Michael Jackson touched all of us at one point in our lives. For me, his music was so much a part of my life. So what does this have to do with parenting? Now would be a great time to gather the family around and share with them stories about how life was while Michael Jackson's songs were being played. Kids love to hear stories about their parents when they were younger. Everyone can even try to moon walk! I did this with my daughter and even pulled out my Jackson 5 albums. We had a great time and was a good way to honor a legend.
